Stereotypes in Music Videos
In lots of music videos, typical stereotypes are portrayed to the audience through the artists and the video itself. These stereotypes include gender, ethnicity and age. In many black unsigned young upcoming artist they almost always seem to promote their promiscuous lifestyle and depict women as sexual objects. This is seen through the way that women are dressed which is usually quite revealing and the shots used are often extreme close ups, reinforcing the idea of the women being objects. In addition in many male black music videos, they can all be generalised into the same category. They usually show a man who has tried to be good in his environment of the hood but due to the police showing discrimination, they have retaliated and now persue a deviant career with the police as the enemy. Many female artists show off there bodies in an attempt to increase their fan base which would be young female teenagers but they want to broaden it to males aswell..
