Finding the right music - unsigned.com

Finding the right music

The way that I will tackle the problem about copyright and non copyright music is that I will go on this website called www.unsigned. com. This website will allow me to look through lots of different types of music that are made by unsigned artists. I can them send the artist or band an email and ask for permission to use their music for my own music video. When I eventually contact the artist for my desired song, I will have a template of an email that I will send to each artist because I may want to send lots of emails to various artists just in case I get rejected by artists. The template will be as followed:

Dear ________ (artists name or band)

I am currently in year 12 approaching year 13 studying Media Studies. As part of my A2 course. I will be making a music video for my desired music song. I would really like to use your song ________ (song) to make my video. I would be really grateful if you could get back to me and let me know if I may use the song.

Many thanks,
Nicholas Ahorituwere.

Non - copyright music

Non - copyright music

Copyright is an official concept proposed by the government which entitles the original creator of any piece of work, certain rights to that piece of work.

By this concept being proposed, it means that the original creator of the piece has a legal say in how the piece can be obtained and used.

Therefore for one to be able to use that piece of work that has been made, one must approach or contact the original creator of the piece, and permission must be granted to allow one to use the piece of work. Usually the artist would not mind if it was for non profit but sometimes if there was profit benefits involved then the artist may be reluctant to allow one to use their work.

When we apply this concept to us studying Media Studies, because we are in the process of making a music video for the examiner, we may need to use an artist's work. This could be a problem as if we wanted to use a global star's work like Rihanna or Beyonce it would be highly unlikely that they would even respond to us, let alone give us permission to use their work!

It is advised for us to use an unsigned artist's work, so that it is likelier that we may be able to contact them.

Favourite Music Video

My Favourite Music Video

My favourite music video is The Scientist by Coldplay. I like this video because it portrays a car accident but it is actually being shot backwards. So we see the journey of Chris after he is involved in the car accident and then it takes us back to the car accident. During the song he often makes the reference of "going back to the start" which in my opinion is extremely clever as it links in with the video very well. Another reason why this is my favourite music video is because Chris is actually lip synching backwards because the video is going backwards, so that is very impressive to me as he had to learn the song backwards in order for it to look effective. By the video being so good, it adds value to the song. I remember when I first listened to the song, I liked it but not as much as I like it today due to the value that the video gives it.
